- Read the fine print. Before making any purchases with BNPL, understand the late fees, interest on longer-term plans, and return policies.
- Treat BNPL like real debt. Only use it for purchases you’d feel comfortable paying for in full immediately. Ask yourself: “Would I buy this with cash today?” If not, reconsider.
- Limit active plans. If you must use BNPL, stick to one or two loans at a time. Managing multiple payment schedules can get confusing fast, and missing a due date often means late fees or even interest charges.
- Automate payments. Set up autopay for any BNPL purchases and monitor your account to prevent missed payments and overdraft fees.
